Unthread alternative: $250 a month, or 9€
Unthread Basic lists $50 per agent and will not sell you fewer than five seats, so the floor is $250 a month whether two people answer or five. It also caps Basic at 100 conversations. BotFerry is 9€ a month for the workspace and 5,000 relayed messages.

The short version
Pick Unthread if your team runs on the machinery: the AI automation builder, self-learning docs, a customer portal, knowledge base sync, CSAT surveys, CRM integrations. At $250 and up you should be using most of it.
Pick BotFerry if you are paying that floor for one thing, a Slack mention reaching your ops channel and the answer coming back. 9€ a month, no seat minimum, no conversation cap at 100.

Prices read 28 July 2026 from each vendor's own pricing page, linked below. BotFerry bills in euro, the others list dollars, so treat the two currencies as separate numbers rather than a converted total.
The volume row does not compare like with like. One BotFerry message is a single hop across the ferry, either a mention carried into your ops channel or a reply carried back. A ticket, conversation, or credit elsewhere covers a whole exchange. Seat prices in the rows above are directly comparable.

Where the $250 comes from
Two numbers stack. The Basic plan is $50 per agent per month, and the minimum is five seats. A three-person support rota pays for five anyway. Pro doubles the rate to $75 and lifts the conversation cap, so a five-seat Pro account is $375 a month before anyone talks about Enterprise.
The cap is the part that catches people. Basic covers up to 100 conversations a month. A busy customer channel clears that in a fortnight, and the answer to clearing it is Pro, not a bolt-on. So the realistic Unthread range for a small team sits between $250 and $375 a month.
BotFerry Starter is 9€ a month: three bots, unlimited operators, 5,000 relayed messages pooled across all of them. One relayed message is a single hop, a mention carried into your ops channel or a reply carried back out. A hundred conversations of twenty messages each still fits.
Unthread is a help desk, we are a hallway
Unthread builds an internal help desk on top of Slack. Requests become tracked conversations with SLAs and assignments. The AI automation builder answers the repeat questions on its own. Documentation improves itself from resolved threads. A customer portal gives people somewhere to look outside Slack, and the analytics tell your manager how the quarter went.
BotFerry moves a message from one channel to another and brings the reply home. A mention opens a fresh thread in your private operator channel. Whoever is free replies in that thread. The reply posts into the requester's original thread as your app, so they never learn which human typed it. Files cross both ways. A reply beginning with // stays put as an internal note.
Nothing else happens. No status, no owner, no timer, no report, no AI. On a team that lives in an SLA that absence is a dealbreaker. On a four-person team that answers within the hour because they are all in the same channel, it is the product.
Two things you get by owning the app
Unthread installs as Unthread's Slack app and holds the token. With BotFerry you create the app yourself from a manifest the wizard writes, install it in your own workspace, and keep the token. Cutting us off is a click in your Slack admin, and the channels the bot can see are the channels you invited it to.
We also store no message content. The thread mapping and an activity log row survive a relay, nothing else. Ask us for your support history and there is none to give. For a security review that is one fewer processor holding customer conversations, and for a compliance team that wants a searchable archive it is a reason to buy Unthread instead.
Trying both
Unthread runs a 14-day trial and so do we. Nothing stops you pointing both at the same channel for a fortnight, since each one only sees the mentions of its own app. Add @Support for BotFerry alongside whatever Unthread is watching, run a week of real traffic, then look at what your operators clicked in Unthread. If it was only the reply box, the relay covers you at a twentieth of the price.
